Farewell Trooper

It's a sad sad day for the gang, as the official lunch transport has been sold. The yellow Ford Ranger Splash made it's debut some 9 years ago, and has been Yuri's loyal companion through many adventures, even sending aid to the flood victims in Johor.

Well, here's to you lanun darat ! May you live on... errr.. apparently at a construction site..

Pak Su - Kuantan

Location : Kuantan.. err, from town head for the pelabuhan, and by the coast, you'll hit it.


Can make it within an hour ? (travel + service) : I don't think so, unless you're a transformer jet !


Decor/Ambience : It's a typical by the beach type restaurant, no walls. There's a line of acquariums where you get to choose the fish, prawns & crabs that you like.


Food : The speciality here is the white pepper claypot crabs. We had some local crabs, and it was pretty good. The sauce was, well, peppery ! The other speciality was the fried tang hoon, or glass noodles. Some of the guys have had similar in KL and said Pak Su's is.. 'ok'.

We also had some prawns (fresh, steamed... nothing to shout about) and deep fried aubergines. Now, this was special. They kinda melt in your mouth. The coating was a powdery, sweet and salty.. very interesting. Worth trying out a small portion if you're here.

Return Trip ? : Yeah, when we're back in Kuantan for some seafood...

Nasi Lemak Zaman - Kuantan

Location : When you're in next in Kuantan, head for the airport. Across the dual carriage way, you'll find a large corner lot shop which says 'Zaman'

Can make it within an hour ? (travel + service) : It's in bloody Kuantan man ! But worth a stop.

Decor/Ambience : Regular stall type restaurant, nice and clean

Food : The speciality here is the hot hot nasi lemak. Cooked fresh and put inside the the banana leaf. Good ? Oh yeah !! The rice is very fragrant and they dont hold back on the santan. Cheaper coconuts in the east coast I guess. The sambal is pretty good too.

Price : Cant remember, but reasonably cheap. Hei, this is Kuantan afterall.

Return Trip ? : MOST DEFINITELY !
